I have been bringing Amit to the club for the past 28 years. Amit has very severe learning disabilities with limited mobility, and uses a wheelchair to get around.
Amit has adopted a different swimming technique — and that’s his unique strength. This unconventional technique, born from adapting to his physical disability, is unusual and amazing, whereby he swims using just one hand to swim. Amit now independently swims comfortably, but needs the assistance of a helper for his safety and to guide his movements in the water. This has been achieved with the support of lovely and dedicated instructors and helpers in the club.
I have benefited by bringing Amit for swimming on Saturdays and, in the process, I have become a better swimmer and made lot of new friends. We enjoy the company of wonderful fellow-members, instructors and helpers.
At the club’s 2025 AGM I accepted the nomination to undertake the role of the club’s chairman. I am excited and promise to continue the excellent work that my predecessor, William, has been doing ever since I have been bringing Amit to the club. I am looking forward to the support of my fellow officers and the members of the club to assist me with my role.
